One of my latest paintings called " Steampunk Cat daddy". He loves to drink his coffee or tea really slow but it gets cold so he added a propane tank to keep it hot. The "treat-o-matic" is for afternoon treats. It always helps to have a little windup on the hat to help think better.

My latest Cat Painting
This is called "Tuna Dreams" oil on board. It was inspired by watching how my cats look so comfortable sleeping. They know how to relax. It's something we all could learn more of these days.

Incatneato
This is an oil painting I created for the Purrfect Pals cat rescue. It was sold at the Black Cat Ball dinner auction a few years ago. I'm introducing it into Verksted Gallery as a limited framed edition. The frame is handmade with hand painted details. The painting is a Giclee print on Velvet fine art archival paper.
With each painting I write a story to share the thoughts and world of each character. This is my idea of a Black Cat going to a costume ball. Notice the fish confetti. Here is the story:
"It was time for the annual “Black Cat Ball”. She bought a new pink gown to wear this year to go with the heart necklace she inherited from her mother. A gold fish mask with a big pink feather hides her identity from others. The proceeds always go to a great cause which is to provide homes for the less fortunate. The Ball was a chance to dine, socialize and show off her new dress but most importantly her new fish fan."

Tuna Dreams painting
This is one of my latest paintings in progress. Each stage has it's own fun and life cycle. The drawing started as a fun idea as I watched my cats do what they love to do most which is sleep. The idea of learning how to rest. After I finished the pencil drawing then I created value thumbnails and color studies in preparation for the final painting. Next I did a sepia underpainting over the painting to establish base lighting or breakdown of light and shadow. This last image is the painting in progress in oils.
I'll post more stages as I work.

Tuna on a silver platter
This is a new painting I'm working on. I start with a rough thumbnail sketch for the idea. Then do a quick series of value studies for tone and lighting. Then I work on the drawing. Sometimes I take photos or gather photos for reference. Most of the time I prefer to draw directly from my imagination. In this case I just wanted to get an idea of the perspective of the cat faces.

Take a CatNap
Here are a few new drawings. I start with small thumbnail sketches in my sketchbook to explore basic shape and flow. Then I pick an image to jump straight into the drawing. The Nap Series is about enjoying life and entering into the rest of God. Within the rest there is peace, joy, fullfillment and some good sleep. Hmm I'm kind of feeling a nap coming on.

New World of Warcraft cards
It's been a busy year. Here are some new painting I produced for World of Warcraft card game. Fun characters in fantasy environments. I create a drawing first then scan it in to paint on top. The main focus of the drawing is to see the overall shape design and the breakdown of light and shadow shapes. It's not about making something look realistic but how do the shadow shapes create an interesting design. One of the most important decisions is choosing the direction of the light on the subject. Once you choose the direction of the light, the real magic happens as you design how the light falls off the form to create interesting shadow shapes.

New cat paintings

2 of my latest paintings. "Patron Saint of Salmons" and "Incatneato". Incatneato was created for Purrfect Pals cat rescue shelter. It's for the annual Black Cat Ball auction to raise money for the shelter. It was painted in oil on canvas.
Patron Saint of Salmons is the protector of Salmon. Somehow I think she is thinking about taking a bit.
